Several lakes surround Arkansas. These lakes include the Columbia, Bull Shoals, Hamilton, and Ouachita. Each of these lakes offers unique features, but most offer an excellent opportunity to spend time with family and friends.

Located in northern Arkansas, Bull Shoals Lake is one of the largest lakes in the state. This lake is a popular destination for fishing, sailing, and other water sports. Lake Chicot

Originally known as Old River Lake, Lake Chicot has a long history. In the late 1820s, the white settlement of the area began. In the 1890s, a prominent Italian immigrant community settled inside the lake curve. The area was also a site for slave plantations.

Lake Dardanelle

Lake Dardanelle is a large reservoir on the Arkansas River. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the Little Rock District constructed it. The Lake was made as part of the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System, which was authorized by the River and Harbor Act of 1946.

Lake Hamilton

Located in Hot Springs, Arkansas, Lake Hamilton is one of the largest and most famous of the state’s many lakes. Various restaurants, motels, and resorts surround the 7,200-acre lake. Located on the Ouachita River, Lake Hamilton is famous for fishing and water sports.

In 1932, the Arkansas Power and Light Company created a hydroelectric power generation facility in Hot Springs. To generate power, the company created the Carpenter Dam. The dam extends more than 100 feet above the lake and is named after Flavius Josephus Carpenter, a pioneer peace officer. The dam is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Lake Ouachita

Located in the Ouachita National Forest, Lake Ouachita is one of Arkansas’s most beautiful natural environments. It’s also home to one of the state’s 52 state parks.

The Lake Ouachita State Park offers hiking, kayak tours, and camping opportunities. There’s also a full-service marina and visitor’s center. You can even book an eagle cruise. The lake also offers family-friendly programs year-round.

Lake Columbia

Located in Southern Arkansas, Lake Columbia is a man-made lake. The lake is also the water source for the communities of Magnolia and Columbia. This lake is known for its fishing, but there are many other activities to enjoy.

Goose Creek feeds the lake’s water. It has an average depth of 18 feet. The upper part of the lake has a lot of aquatic vegetation, including lily pads.

Fishing is a popular activity at Lake Columbia. Anglers can try for largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, channel catfish, and red-ear sunfish. The fish population continues to grow each year.

White Oak Lake State Park

In the piney woods of southern Arkansas, White Oak Lake State Park is a popular destination for nature lovers. Aside from the largemouth bass and the numerous fishing opportunities, there are several trails to enjoy.

The park has several trails that will take you through wooded landscapes, marshlands, and ridges. These trails offer views of the lake, the Great Lakes National Park, and the Blue Ridge Mountains. You can take a walk for around two hours.

The park also has a visitor center with exhibits and programs about the area’s history. During the summer, you can also enjoy historical reenactments. There is also a boat ramp for fishing. You can also rent a pedal boat or canoe.
