Georgetown is much more than a sleepy little country town. This historical gem is full of things to do and places to explore. Inner Space Cavern
Located in Central Texas, Inner Space Cavern is a popular tourist attraction. It is one of the best-preserved caves in Texas. It is home to over 40 species of animal, including peccaries, dire wolves, and saber-toothed cats.
Inner Space Cavern was discovered by a Texas Highway Department core drilling crew in 1963. They were attempting to determine the stability of the ground for a highway overpass on IH 35. They drilled a 36-inch corehole to investigate. They discovered a mud crater called “The Volcano,” which probably formed from water welling up out of the floor. They then drilled a giant hole to explore.
Inner Space Cavern is open year-round. The tour is available Monday through Sunday from 9 am to 6 pm. It takes about an hour. You should wear a long-sleeved shirt, hiking boots, and a helmet. You will also need a pair of headlamps.
Blue Hole Park
Located near the southern fork of the San Gabriel River, Blue Hole Park in Georgetown, Texas, is the perfect place to take a dip. The water at Blue Hole is clear and calm, which makes it a nice place to cool off. It is also the oldest swimming pool in Texas.
You can do several things at Blue Hole Park, including fishing, wading, and a playscape. It is also an excellent place to learn about the area’s history. There are historical markers located around the park.

Cedar Breaks Park

The park is named for the abundance of cedar trees in the surrounding forest. The dam was constructed in 1979 for flood control, providing countless recreational opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts. For example, there are numerous hiking trails around the lake. The lake is also a prime fishing spot, containing an assortment of fish.
There is also a sizeable lakeside marina and a state park with 64 campsites. There are also plenty of paved trails for walking and jogging. The park is not far from some of the best hotels and restaurants in the area.
Williamson County Courthouse
Located on the Georgetown Town Square, the Williamson County Courthouse is one of the oldest courthouses in Texas. Originally designed by Charles H. Page & Bro. in 1909, it is also the sister courthouse to the Hays County courthouse in San Marcos.
The building features a three-story buff brick and limestone structure with a patinated copper dome. It features projecting entrances on both sides of the main facade, Ionic columns, and ornamental detailing.
In 2007, the county courtroom was restored to its original paint scheme. In addition, a balcony was also restored to its original paint scheme. Several local attorney offices are located around the courthouse. There is a free parking lot next to the building.
In 1860, nineteen percent of the county’s population was African-American. This group was often mistaken for Mexicans. Some of the early settlers were Germans and Swedes. The county was named for Robert McAlpin Williamson, a veteran of the Battle of San Jacinto. He was nicknamed “Three-Legged Willie” because of his wooden prosthesis.
