Letort Spring Run was considered a transportation hub during the early days of Carlisle. 1868 the South Mountain Iron Company built a railroad through the site. The railroad was completed in 1870 and then abandoned by the Reading Company.

The railroad continued southward across Yellow Breeches Creek to Mount Holly Springs. The South Mountain Railroad also operated from Carlisle to Bonny Brook.

Colonel Denning State Park
