This paved trail, part of the Delaware County Primary Trail Network, connects recreation hubs in Upper Darby. The trail also includes a dog park.
Darby Creek Trail was initiated as part of the Delaware County Council’s initiative to create a recreational trail along Darby Creek. The creek was formerly contaminated with dangerous chemicals from two landfills.
As a result, the creek has low water quality for most of its length. Various organizations have awarded grants to improve the creek.
The Urban Research and Development Corporation did a feasibility study. The company surveyed area residents, asked about their trail preferences and presented detailed maps.
Those residents were then asked to vote on the project. Two-thirds of the funding for the trial came from state grants.
In addition, Upper Darby Township and the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources also provided matching funds.
Dermond Recreation Area
Located in the Drexel Hill section of Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, the Dermond Recreation Area is a small park on Dermond Avenue. This park has a fenced dog park, playground equipment, concession stand, and parking. In addition, there are six baseball fields in the recreation area.
The Dermond Recreation Area has two different playground areas. The first is the Kirklyn Playground, a triangular open area with playground equipment.
The second playground is at the corner of Dermond Avenue and Anderson & Huey. The fenced playground is great for younger kids, while the open area is excellent for older kids.

The park is located along Darby Creek, under the historic Lindbergh Bridge. The park is also home to the Upper Darby Art Gallery.
The area also features a multi-use field, which is excellent for exercising. The field includes a gazebo, a horseshoe pit, a picnic table, and bathrooms. The park is adjacent to the Philadelphia public golf course. There is also a small park, Clark Playground, with a playground.
