For decades, Annapolis has been working to protect its historic waterfront. But plans to rezone the area to allow overscaled redevelopment threaten the area’s heritage. The National Trust for Historic Preservation recently listed City Dock among the 11 Most Endangered Historic Places.
In response, a group of citizens formed the City Dock Action Committee (CDAC) to reimagine downtown Annapolis’ future. CDAC has reached out to hundreds of stakeholders, including businesses, nonprofit organizations, and residents, to create a comprehensive plan to ensure the area’s resiliency.
An initial $40 million revitalization effort will focus on raising the dock area by six feet. This includes installing pumps and floodgates and creating green public space.
Another $50 million project will raise the walkway to eight feet above the typical water level. The dock area will also be transformed into a green space with shaded gathering areas, a splash pad, and seating.
